About Helite

Helite notre histoire.JPG

HELITE is exclusively dedicated to developing airbag systems through a combination of knowledgeable staff and advanced engineering solutions. More than R&D work, Helite is also an expert in the manufacturing of inflatable protective equipment and the leading developer and the first manufacturer in Europe of wearable airbag systems: more than 60 000 airbags are in use today.

Design, development and manufacturing of the airbag systems is conducted by HELITE in Dijon, France. Every single airbag and trigger system is carefully tested and quality controlled. Our airbags are already in use in several high-risk applications, for example for motorcyclists, horse-riders, skiers and pilots. Many developments are also used in the industry, as OEM projects. Our OEM projects impose us high standards of quality and reliability. Our protective garments are particularly appreciated by professional sportsmen, that can’t afford any injuries.

How does the airbag works?

The vests inflate within 100ms which is faster than an eye blink and it is also the fastest airbag vest on the market. Once inflated, the airbag creates a protective air cage cushioning your body and vital organs from impact. The vest is tethered between the rider and the bike or the horse and is activated in the event of a fall. It requires more than 30kg to trigger it, so it is hard to inflate it by mistake. After an inflation, you only need to replace the CO2 canister (The operation is explaned here). The vest gives you the maximum freedom and protection. On Road. On Track. On Terrain.

The Trigger system

As the rider fells, it disengages the the multidirectional ball releasing the pressure in the spring which will perforates the CO2 canister.

The vest have a multi-directional trigger which connects to the bike lanyard. This lanyard only needs to be fitted once, and remains on the bike. The lanyard fixed on the saddle by looping it around a secure connection.
All needs to be done is to connect the vest to the lanyard when mounting and disconnecting when you are done.
If you forget to 'disconnect' from the bike, you will simply feel a tug when dismounting. This is not enough to set it off, allowing you to disconnect without incident.
In the event of an 'off' the pull is strong and immediately triggers inflation.

The benefits of the airbag cage

The full inflation is achieved within 90 milliseconds and this even on the larger vests. A human blink takes 400 milliseconds.

The airbag is inflated at an optimum pressure to protect your ribs, your shoulders and your back. The cage dissipates the energy of impact far more effectively than a simple thick foam layer ever can, giving maximum protection to your vital organs.

CO2 continues to flow into the vest, balanced by a pressure relief valve to maintain full inflation for 10 seconds or more. Ample time to come to a complete halt and assess the situation. The vest will deflate automatically or may be rapidly deflated by loosening the cartridge.

What is the Turtle Technology?

The Turtle technology combines a tough back protector, on the high standards of CE conformity, above the back side of the airbag.
Impact energy is dissipated more efficiently achieving much lower transmission of force to vulnerable areas including spine, ribs and vital organs.
Minimising the trauma from impact on internal organs was a key part of the design brief. A well fitting Helite TT Air Vest will bring maximum protection.

What is the Zip'In system?

The Zip'In system allows you to use the same airbag liner for our special range of products: Airshell Gilet, Airshell Blouson, Airshow, . You only need to unzip the airbag liner to zip it in your next worn vest.
