About Helite

Helite notre histoire.JPG

HELITE is exclusively dedicated to developing airbag systems through a combination of knowledgeable staff and advanced engineering solutions. More than R&D work, Helite is also an expert in the manufacturing of inflatable protective equipment and the leading developer and the first manufacturer in Europe of wearable airbag systems: more than 60 000 airbags are in use today.

Design, development and manufacturing of the airbag systems is conducted by HELITE in Dijon, France. Every single airbag and trigger system is carefully tested and quality controlled. Our airbags are already in use in several high-risk applications, for example for motorcyclists, horse-riders, skiers and pilots. Many developments are also used in the industry, as OEM projects. Our OEM projects impose us high standards of quality and reliability. Our protective garments are particularly appreciated by professional sportsmen, that can’t afford any injuries.

How does the airbag works?

When you are experiencing a fall, everything happens very quicklly, and this is why it is crucial that the airbag inflates in a heartbeat. The Helite Airvest are the fastest to inflate in the market in less than 0.1s.

When starting riding, the vest needs to be tethered to the bike which will activate the trigger system in the event of a fall. There are no risk to trigger it by mistake as it requires 30kg to trigger it. After an inflation, the cartridge has to be replaced before riding again (See how to replace a cartridge).

The Trigger system

In the event of a fall, the rider pulls on the tether which will disengage the multidirectional ball located on the bottom of the canister. This releases the pressure in the spring connected to a piston that will perforate the cartridge liberating the CO2 in the airbag.

The multi-directional trigger improves the inflation time as you cannot predict which side the fall is going to happen. The lanyard is easy to install on your bike and it needs to be fitted only once.
All needs to be done is to connect the vest to the lanyard when mounting and disconnecting when you are done.
If you forget to 'disconnect' the vest from the bike, you will feel a tug while walking away. This is will not be enough pressure to trigger the airbag.

The benefits of the airbag cage

0.09 seconds is what is needed for your vest to be fully inflated. The pressure in the airbag is optimum to protect your neck, your back, your shoulders, your ribs and your organs. Most accident leading to tetraplegy are due to a violent fall pushing the head backward, leading to a irreversible spinal injury. The benefit of the airbag being inflated behing the neck prevents from the rider from spinal injuries and can save you from the wheelchair.

The vest will remain fully inflated for about 10 seconds before it automatically deflates. All needs to be done at this point is to change the cartridge.

What is the Turtle Technology?

The turtle Technology is the last evolution from Helite, the tough CE certified back protector will dissipate the force of the impact on all the surface.
This recent technology is the best protection you can get when you ride. The Turtle technology combines a tough back protector, on the high standards of CE conformity, above the back side of the airbag.
